For Pole:
When you’re starting out, just dress as you would to most fitness classes. Wear comfortable, close fitting clothing such as workout gear you would normally wear to yoga, Pilates, or to the gym.
No shoes are required, unless you’ve found a particularly fantastic pair of stilettos.
Make sure your hands are free of oils, lotions, or hair products. Avoid wearing lotions or sunscreens on your legs, as well. We want to make sure you stick to the pole.
No rings, watches, bracelets, toe rings, anklets, or jewelry of any kind, really. Anything metal on the pole can and will scratch it. Scratches on the pole mean scratches on your hands. And bloody hands are only attractive to vampires…and there are probably very few vampires on Maui.
As you progress in class, you should wear short shorts and a tank top and comfortable sports bra. You will need to have a lot of skin exposed, as you need to stick to the pole. Fabric will slide right off the pole, giving you no grip.
For Aerial Silk & Yoga:
We highly recommend that students wear tight clothing that covers the backs of the knees and torso. This will help avoid burns caused by friction with the fabric.
Please wear shirts that will not ride up overhead when you go upside down.
We encourage students to wear t-shirts or long sleeves to cover the delicate underarm skin.
No jewelry. Rings and metal jewelry can poke holes or small tears in the aerial fabric.
I know it seems harsh, but please respect the privacy of our other students. If you’re curious enough to want to watch, then why not just take the leap and join in?!
Try not to compare yourself with everyone else. This is your journey. This is your body. I always say, “There are no mistakes in Pole Dancing — only your own body’s interpretation of the movement.” As you progress, your skill level and your confidence will grow, too. I promise.
Almost all of our students start out as beginners…and happily almost all of our more advanced students are repeats! (We love you!) Some students have dance backgrounds; others have none. We have lawyers, moms, real estate agents, massage therapists, yoga instructors, airline pilots, politicians, bankers, bartenders, students, and just about any other walk of life you can think of. Ages range from 4-92 years old, so far.
