She is a flying trapeze and aerial artist\, who moonlights as a travel and content writer in her spare time. She received a BFA in theater and education from New York University and after a brief stint as a professional tour director (If you look out the right side of the bus\, you’ll see the Statue of Liberty)\, she discovered and fell in love with circus. After sprinting off to England for some whirlwind training at Circomedia in flying trapeze\, aerial arts and acrobatics\, Caitlyn became a roving circus vagrant\, traveling the globe performing and teaching. Quickly realizing that the wandering circus lifestyle is not always the most lucrative or stable\, especially when attempting to keep up with those pesky NYU loans\, she fell back on her impeccable grammar and highly praised writing skills to help pay the bills. Now\, with a ‘work hard and smart’ work ethic\, Caitlyn balances out her life as a teacher\, performer\, director and writer with grace and dignity\, and only a few harried late nights. \nShe can be found teaching workshops and performing original circus acts around the world\, all the while enjoying the freedom of writing on the go. She spent 2 years in San Juan\, Puerto Rico\, employed as the new rig manager for Trapeze School New York\, crafting shows for Bahia Urbana in Old San Juan\, helping with the inaugural International Circus Festival in PR\, and plotting ways to bring Clowns Without Borders to the island. She took some time to gallivant around Fiji and New Zealand\, attempting to surf and teaching workshops to locals. There was a stint in San Francisco\, meeting colorful West Oakland locals\, and the direction of a full length circus show in Dallas before fleeing the country for some rest\, relaxation and more workshops and performance in SE Asia and Australia. Currently she can be found in Melbourne\, studying exercise science by day and moonlighting as Marilyn in her one woman comedy show at night.

For the more advanced students\, there is the opportunity to try some hand to hand (doing handstands on your partner’s hands) and some dynamic transitions and combinations.\n \nCircle the Bar – Dynamic Rolls on Lyra\nLyra is a beautiful apparatus\, though it often seems to be best suited for never dizzying contortionists. This class will teach a few basic moves and then delve into the endless ways to flip\, roll and spin around this beautiful circle of metal. Please wear tight fitted clothing and bring long sleeves or elbow pads if you want to try elbow circle. \nRequirements: Ability to invert and sit up on lyra without assistance. A front balance is also helpful\, but not required. \nDance Trapeze\nDiscover the fluidity of trapeze with this lower\, spinning\, single point version of static trapeze. Within minutes\, you will be soaring around the room as you perfect stunning poses and transitions. No experience necessary. \nFit to Fly – Aerialize your body\nCircus arts requires incredible amounts of strength and flexibility and can be quite rough on the untrained body. Due to the specialized movements\, it can be difficult to find the appropriate cross training activities. Fit to Fly brings aerial conditioning and flexibility training to a whole new level of accessibility – 90% of the exercises can be done at home\, on a pull up bar or at a playground. Discover new ways to bulletproof your body from injury\, techniques for actively improving flexibility\, and a whole slew of exercises that specifically target aerial and handstand muscles. \nNo experience required. \nHandstands and Flexibility\nAlthough standing on your hands seems fairly simple\, there is a lifetime of technique in mastering the skill set for a solid and steady handstand. In this class\, master the basics and figure out how to turn yourself upside down safely and efficiently. If you already have your handstand\, learn techniques for improving your form and the steps necessary for moving onto more advanced moves\, like lever ups and one handed handstands. In addition\, we will delve into some deep partner stretching and go over some ways to increase and maintain your flexibility. No experience necessary. \nLyra\nLyra is a beautiful apparatus\, though it often seems to be best suited for never dizzying contortionists. This class will teach a few basic sequences and help you discover this fantastic vessel for creating exciting new work. Requirements: Ability to invert and sit up on lyra without assistance.\n \nSilks – Spread ‘Em and Smile\nTake your fabric work to the next level with new and creative poses\, splits and transitions. Discover just how far your legs will go as you delve into unexplored aerial territory\, twisting and contorting in awe-inspiring\, but secretly simple\, ways. Find new paths into and out of old tricks and create new ones in the process.\nPrerequisite: Ability to invert at solo\, foot locks. \nAbout Caitlyn:\nCaitlyn Larsson is a jack of all trades\, and attempting to become master of a few. She is a flying trapeze and aerial artist\, who moonlights as a travel and content writer in her spare time. She received a BFA in theatre and education from New York University and after a brief stint as a professional tour director (If you look out the right side of the bus\, you’ll see the Statue of Liberty)\, she discovered and fell in love with circus. She took some time to galavant around Fiji and New Zealand\, attempting to surf and teaching workshops to locals.

SUMMARY:Love & Lust
DESCRIPTION:Cabaret and Cocktails and ProArts Theater present \nLOVE & LUST \nLove & Lust: A Burlesque Tease\, an evening of dance\, song\, comedy\, and burlesque. Taking you from the cheeky side of love to the naughty side of lust and everywhere in between\, this show will be sure to satisfy your needs! \nTickets will be $20 in advance\, $25 at the door. \nMarch 11 \nONE NIGHT ONLY \nDoors open at 7:30pm \nShow starts at 8:00pm \n  \n\nAttending Your First Burlesque Show: What to Expect\n\nIn last week’s blog\, we offered inspiration for your attire for those of you who are new to attending burlesque shows. This week we decided to follow up on a similar theme\, by taking a look at what to expect when attending your first show as an audience member.\nIt’s worth noting that due to the worldwide rise of burlesque over the last few years\, there are many different kinds of shows out there. From seated ‘dinner and a show’ affairs to shows that merge with club nights\, to small\, local pub shows\, to massive festivals hosting performers from all over the world and much more. Thus\, not every show is the same\, so we will be making some generalisations here. \nArrive in Plenty of Time\nLet’s set the scene to begin with. Most shows open their doors between 30 minutes to an hour before the show begins. This gives the audience time to arrive\, mingle\, find their seats if it’s a seated event\, get drinks and get comfortable before the stage action begins. It’s generally a good idea to get in before the show starts if you can; obviously this varies depending on the venue and set-up (you might be lucky and be able to sneak in unnoticed at the back if you’re late) but nobody wants to be that person trying to enter quietly and having to push through (especially if your seats are in the front row) once the show has begun. \nThe Host with the Most\n \nAs a general rule\, burlesque shows are hosted by a compère or host. These fabulously engaging\, multi-talented individuals are tasked with the enormous job of basically being the glue that holds the show together. They create a rapport with the audience\, they introduce the acts and if they’re good\, they weave a seamless magic that flows through the show making everything gel just right. If they have additional skills (for example\, many hosts are also singers) then they’ll often drop in a performance or two of their own between the other acts. Without the host\, you’d be looking at a series of disjointed\, seemingly random performances with nothing to tie them all together\, so the role of the compère is crucial. \nWhat’s In a Show?\nBurlesque shows are often split into two or three sections\, with intervals between to allow the audience to top up their refreshments and powder their noses and whatnot. Each section will be comprised of a number of acts; if it’s a cabaret or variety show (as opposed to strictly burlesque) then\, as well as striptease acts\, you might see magicians\, comedians\, circus acts and more. \nAnd so we conclude this week’s blog\, we hope it’s been informative! In our next blog we’ll be taking a look at audience etiquette at a burlesque show\, with some handy hints on do’s and don’ts when going to see a show. In the meantime\, if you missed our previous blog and you’re looking for some ideas for what to wear when you’re going to see a show\, check it out here: \n\n\nABC How To: Dress For a Burlesque Show \n
