F.A.Q.
I’ve never done anything like this before. What class(es) should I take?
There are several options available for first-time pole divas who want to try just one class/workshop:
The Nibbler: An enticing 1.5 hour introductory class focusing on the basic movements of the pole, including a Pilates based, touch-me-feel-me floor workout, seductive transitions, pole spins, and even a take-home routine—an excellent primer for our level 1 series (not to mention an excellent workout).
Any of our basic, 2-hour workshops including: Luscious Lap Dance, Chair Dancing, Sensual Striptease, Lost in Transition, and any themed workshop.
Femme Fatale Fridays: Also known as “Freestyle Fridays.” Now this is my kind of workout! Join us at the studio for some open-pole time 1-2 Fridays a month. All levels are welcome to strut their stuff, learn new tricks, or just see what all the talk is about at this 2-hour Pole Party!
Private lessons: Not quite sure or just a little shy? No problem! We also schedule private lessons for individuals and small groups. Just ask!
And for those beginner’s who want to add a little spice to their weekly workouts, we have ongoing series classes, too:
Pole Dancing Level 1: A 6-week program (total of 9 hours of instruction) designed to develop a dance foundation of all the moves you will need to advance into subsequent higher levels of pole. This saucy class heats up with a Pilates based sensual warm-up and sultry transitions, and features a new pole spin in every lesson!
Pole Dancing Level 1/2: Another signature 6-week program (total of 9 hours of instruction) which lets students who are comfortable with level one, but not quite ready for level 2, advance and learn new spins. Though this class has a more intense warm-up and continuing students, it’s more than suitable for first-timers, like yourself!
Booty Camp: Coming soon! A 6-week program (total of 6 hours of instruction) that challenges and conditions! Perfect for those wanting to gain strength and flexibility to work on the poles, or for those wanting to take their pole bodies to the next level! A different, sexy, fitness-based workout every week using the pole as added resistance. Bring a towel and water…cause you’re gonna need it!
Pole-ates Body: Coming soon! A 6-week program (total of 6 hours of instruction) that takes the best of our Pole Dancing warm-up moves and kicks it up by adding light resistance and Pilates props. Tone your trouble zones, connect with your body, and free your inner diva! If you’re not quite ready for the pole, or need to really focus on your core strength, this one’s for you!
What will I learn?
Please see our class Descriptions. That will give you a better idea.
How big are the classes?
For weekly programs, we maintain small, intimate class sizes to provide individual attention, quality instruction, maximum pole time, and a safe, friendly environment for our students. Classes are capped at 10-12, no exceptions.
For group parties and private functions there is virtually no limit in size. Obviously, if you require more space, we can easily change locations to accommodate.
Our Femme Fatale Fridays are more of a party atmosphere than a class, so we allow more participants. Over the course of the 2 hours, we try to keep the numbers under 25, but there are always exceptions at these shindigs!
Do I have to be really fit to join?
Not at all! We are open to students of all fitness levels, all shapes, all sizes, and almost all ages! Customized modifications to warm-up exercises and pole moves are always provided at your request. Our classes are known for quality instruction, challenging moves, and a lot of fun! You will get a workout no matter what your level!
Are the moves hard to master and what if I’m not ready to move to another level?
We don’t expect you to master every move immediately. And if you do…more power to ya! Each class is meant to progress onto the next. If you’re not ready to move on, you’re welcome to repeat any and every class as many times as you feel necessary. The most important thing is that you have fun.
Try not to compare yourself with everyone else. This is your journey. This is your body. I always say, “There are no mistakes in Pole Dancing—only your own body’s interpretation of the movement.” As you progress, your skill level and your confidence will grow, too. I promise.
What should I wear…or not wear?
Wear comfortable, close fitting clothing such as workout gear you would normally wear to yoga, Pilates, or to the gym. See our Online Store for more ideas.
No shoes are required, unless you’ve found a particularly fantastic pair of stilettos ;)
Make sure your hands are free of oils, lotions, or hair products. Avoid wearing lotions or sunscreens on your legs, as well. We want to make sure you stick to the pole.
No rings, watches, bracelets, toe rings, anklets, or jewelry of any kind, really. Anything metal on the pole can and will scratch it. Scratches on the pole mean scratches on your hands. And bloody hands are only attractive to vampires…and there are probably very few vampires on Maui.
Is there stripping involved?
Stripping? Yes. Nudity? No. We have a strict no nudity policy for the comfort of our more modest clients. Stripping is reserved for our stripping workshops. “Wardrobe malfunctions” happen, so dress for fitness above all! Feel free to strip away your inhibitions, though. The more often you attend class, the more confidence you will gain.
What else do I bring to class?
Water, yoga mat, an open mind, and a feisty attitude!
Femme Fatale Fridays and Private Functions are BYOB (and know I will cut you off for obvious reasons).
Do you teach private lessons?
Absolutely! In fact, we love them! We offer private lessons to individuals and small groups at the studio, my home on the Westside, or a private residence. Each lesson is individually customized to your requests. So whether you want to design a sassy routine for that special occasion or master a complicated move, we’ve got you covered.
Do you do Bachelorette Parties, Private Groups, or Special Events?
Yes! For more information, see our Party Page.
Are we allowed to bring cameras and video recorders?
Cameras are allowed at Private Parties. Video recorders are allowed with certain restrictions. The recording must not contain the lessons or the warm-ups. You can record the participants in your group only after the instruction or lessons have been completed, or during breaks between the warm-up and the lessons. Digital pictures can be taken at any time during the party and can include everyone.
For students registered in series classes, you may bring your cameras to take as many sexy pictures of yourself with the poles, the lap dance chairs, each other, the water cooler… whatever you like. Video restrictions are as above. Please ask permission to take photos of other students.
What background do the majority of the students have?
Almost all of our students start out as beginners…and happily almost all of our more advanced students are repeats! (We love you!) Some students have dance backgrounds; others have none. We have lawyers, moms, real estate agents, massage therapists, yoga instructors, bartenders, students, and just about any other walk of life you can think of. Ages range from 18-68 years old, so far.
Are there men?
Our classes highlight the strength, spirit, and sensuality of the female body. That being said, virtually all of our clients are women. Men--both heterosexual and homosexual—have taken notice, however, and are welcome to enquire about private lessons. Only serious students will be considered, thanks.
What if I just want to spend more time practicing on the pole?
Don’t have one at home…but can’t wait for your next class to get back on the pole? I know the feeling. That’s why we have Open-pole practice sessions outside of the regular class schedule, up to four times a week. You must have completed or be currently registered in a Pole Dancing Level 1 class in order to participate in the practice sessions, as minimum supervision applies.
Practice Sessions are 1/2 hr to 1hr studio sessions open to all students of all levels. The 1/2 hour sessions immediately follow the Wednesday and Sunday classes. The 1hr sessions are held Tuesday night and Saturday afternoon. Pre-registration is required.
Practice your new moves and choreography from the previous lesson, or experiment with variations to create your own spicy routines!
Can I drop-in to a class?
Classes, workshops, and parties are reserved for registered clients only. We offer several 1-time classes and workshops throughout each month, so we encourage you to join in on those! Please see the calendar for dates of upcoming classes and workshops. Femme Fatale Friday Pole Parties do allow “pay-at-the-door” prices for last-minute drop-ins, but you’ll get a better deal if you pre-register. Drop-in rates are available for students who have completed a Level 1, and with instructor permission.
How do I pre-register and pay?
There are 3 great ways to pay:
1. Pay by phone. You may pay directly by providing the Pole Room with your credit card details over the phone. Please have your credit card available when you call to arrange payment.
2. Pay in person. You may pay by cash, personal check, credit or debit card at the studio.
3. Pay online. Go to www.mindbodyonline.com, clilck on The Pole Room, and choose your class! Or go to the online store at www.ThePoleRoom.com.
What if I miss a class?
Things come up, I understand. With that in mind, every 6-week series class is scheduled over a 7-week time slot. I swear I can count! The 7th week allows students to make-up a class during their normal class time. Students who have not missed a class can attend the 7th week for an additional fee.
Students may also attend another series’ class with prior instructor perrmission.
What is your cancellation policy?
Classes are non-refundable, but please ask about transfers.
For private parties, the $100 deposit is non-refundable. You have the option to reschedule your party for a different time/date (availability permitting) at no cost as long as you provide The Pole Room at least 7 days notice prior to the previously confirmed reservation. If you need to reschedule your party on shorter notice (between 48 hours and 6 days), you will be charged a $25 administration fee. No refunds for same day cancellations.
